CHENNAI: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) CID deputy superintendent of police Kabilan has been placed under suspension for demanding 5 crore from one of the accused to ‘slow down’ the investigation process against the key suspects in a financial scam busted last year.
Inquiries revealed that DSP Kabilan was assigned to investigate the fraud committed by International Financial Services (IFS), a Vellore-based financial firm, that swindled 6,000 crore from 89,000 depositors promising to offer 25 per cent to 30 per cent interest every month.
In this regard, police apprehended some agents involved in the scam, but they didn’t take serious efforts to nab the key suspects managing directors and directors of the firm.
Meanwhile, Kabilan demanded one of the suspects, Harikrishnan, to pay 5 crore as commission, to be lenient and slow down the investigation process. Hence, Harikrishnan gave 30 lakh as advance to the Kabilan. The cops have also raided his house in Neelankarai and recovered 30 lakh and property documents from his residence. After the issue came to light, ADGP Abin Dinesh Modak ordered to probe and suspened Kabilan.
