Thiruvananthapuram: Milma has withdrawn the increase in the price announced for Milma Rich Milk sold in green packets, following talks minister for dairy development and milk co-operatives J Chnichurani had with Milma officials. Milma had increased the price by Rs 2 per litre on Tuesday (an increase of Re 1 per half-litre packet).
However, Milma has not withdrawn the hike of Rs 2 per litre announced for Milma Smart sold in yellow packets.
The price rise had come under severe criticism, including from the minister, since Milma had made the decision without consulting the state government. “Even though Milma has the authority to increase the price, the government should be taken into confidence before taking such decisions,” the minister had said on Tuesday.
Milma chairman KS Mani had said on Tuesday that both the variants are being sold only in Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram regions and that too in a limited quantity, to the tune of maximum 30,000 litres per day.
