Ludhiana: Facing problems related to policing, industrialists held a meeting with senior Punjab Police officials. Gurpreet Deo, Special DGP (community affairs division) presided over the meeting, which was organised at Focal Point Headquarters of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU). The major problems discussed during the meeting included industrial thefts and snatching from workers etc.
Addressing the gathering, CICU president Upkar Singh Ahuja said, “Incidents of theft in factories, especially of costly raw material and finished products is on the rise in Ludhiana. Besides, there has been an increase in snatchings from our workers, especially on the salary days and in the evenings. Criminals seem to have no fear of the police. There is an urgent need to increase vigil and manpower in industrial areas to put a full stop to such incidents.”
The industrialists also raised other issues related to focal points. Industrialist Neeraj Satija, vice-president of Police Public Foundation (PPF), said, “Besides crime, there are other major problems which industrialists are facing especially in Focal Point. Some of these issues include unauthorised parking on main roads, encroachments, gangs active in demanding donations forcefully on the pretext of religious programs etc. Since industrialists are unable to resolve these issues on their own, we need help and cooperation from the police to tackle such problems”
After listening to woes of the industrialists DGP Deo assured them that their problems will be resolved at the earliest and she passed on necessary instructions to the senior officials of Ludhiana Police present on the occasion. She also highlighted that Punjab Police is working on a project on the security of the children in terms of missing, and domestic violence.
