Check quality of beverages: Food officials

Coimbatore: Food safety officials have urged consumers to be wary of soft drinks consumed from shops to beat the heat.
They appealed people to check the manufacturing and expiry dates as such products are often sold without the information. “People should also watch out for hygiene as drinks prepared in unhygienic conditions can cause health issues,” an official said.
Health officials are checking shops and giving instructions to shopkeepers to ensure that safe drinks are offered to consumers. “We checked 270 shops in the city last week and found expired soft drinks in some shops. Notices were served to 18 shops. Around 50kg of rotten fruits kept for making juice were also destroyed,” the official added. tnn
