CMDA plans QR code stickers in Chennai Metro
Commuters will have to scan the code and answer a set of 14 questions on the city’s future infrastructure
CHENNAI: Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) officials has written to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to paste QR embedded stickers in metro trains to gather the opinion of passengers for its ambitious third master plan.
Commuters will have to scan the code and then answer a set of 14 questions divided into different categories such as type of housing, quality of life, recreation, environment, economy, investment attractiveness and image of the city they perceive.
CMDA officials have been conducting Chennai metropolitan area vision survey campaign at beaches malls and also on the web. As of today, more than 30,000 people have participated in the exercise. “Once CMRL agrees, we will paste QR code stickers in metro trains and place banners inside the stations. It is vital for the public to participate in this exercise,” said a CMDA official who did not wish to be named. CMDA’s vision document for the third master plan (2026-2046) for Chennai metropolitan area covers 1189 sq km. The document will be used to plan a sustainable environment, a vibrant economy and an inclusive holistic development for the metropolis.
The first comprehensive plan was prepared in 1976 while the second plan was prepared in 2008. Various projects are being implemented based on the earlier plans. Earlier, the schemes were planned only at the official level, now CMDA has initiated efforts to get opinions directly from the public at places such as Marina beach, bus stands, railway stations, cinema halls, shopping malls, educational and college institutions and through its website.
