Coimbatore: Following the death of a pregnant woman in a road accident near Kovaipudur Junction, the traffic police have instructed truck owners and drivers not to operate the vehicles with overload.
On Monday, a speeding gravel-laden truck knocked down M Mohana, 29, of Madukkarai Market near Kovaipudur Junction. She was seven months pregnant.
Mohana was riding pillion with her husband N Manojkumar, 31, when the accident took place. The traffic investigation wing (west) police arrested the truck driver, S Balamurali Krishna, 36, of Madampatti, and seized the truck.
Following the accident, the traffic police held a meeting with the truck drivers and owners on Tuesday. The traffic police instructed the truck operators to cover blue metal jelly, M Sand and gravel sand using tarpaulin for the safety of other vehicles. The vehicles should enter the city at the permitted time only and should not be overloaded, police said. tnn
