Mumbai pockets sweat through 3hr afternoon load-shedding

On Wednesday, when Mumbai recorded its all-time high peak electricity demand of 3,893MW as the mercury touched 38. 8 degree C in Santa Cruz, the 400KV Talegaon-Kharghar transmission line tripped, leading to loadshedding in parts of the Mumbai metropolitan region. Parts of Mumbai, especially MSEDCL areas, and parts of Thane, Navi Mumbai and Raigad faced outages lasting 1-2 hours in the afternoon. In some places, the power cut lasted up to 3 hours, said sources.

Temp may dip today, says IMD; some schools start vacation early, tweak hours

The discomfort is especially high as night temperatures are keeping up with that of day: Colaba recorded a minimum of 26. 6°C and Santacruz 25. 6°C. Both are one degree above normal. A 2-year-old child was murdered by his own father who threw the body in a plastic bag. The accused girlfriend had agreed to marry him only if he got rid of his wife and son. The state registered a surge in Covid cases since late-February, with weekly cases almost tripling between March 23-29 period (2,513) and April 13-19 period (6,102). As the number of Covid cases in India is increasing, the minister said all staff in hospitals should wear a mask. He said over 5,000 Covid beds are operational under the medical education department alone, and over 2,000 ventilators are ready for use.

Covid cases in Maharashtra cross 1k after 4 days

Four people died due to Covid-19 even as the state’s daily tally (1,100) crossed the 1,000-mark after afour-day gap on Wednesday. In Mumbai, a 73-year-old man with chronic kidney disease succumbed to Covid complications even as the neighbouring Thane city, Pune and Satara registered one death each. The daily caseload in Mumbai increased marginally from 220 on Tuesday to 234 on Wednesday, which has throughout the pandemic been the weekday with the highest tally.
