MYSURU: Mysuru district authorities are going all out in their efforts to increase the voting percentages across all eleven assembly constituencies here.
Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programmes have been intensified to educate voters from different walks of life to participate in the democratic process without fail. District SVEEP nodal officer KM Gayathri, who is chief executive officer of zilla panchayat, Mysuru, is visiting factories, industries and workplaces across Mysuru district and encouraging workers to take the initiative to ensure every member of their family votes without a miss.
Street plays, bike/scooter rallies and public awareness programmes are being organised to educate the voters.
Nodal officer KM Gayathri told TOI that SVEEP programmes are being conducted not just in urban areas but also in rural pockets.
The average voting percentage in the previous two assembly elections in the Mysuru district has remained 74%. Three rural constituencies – Periyapatna, KR Nagar and Hunsur have recovered voting percentage between 83% and 86 %. Five other rural constituencies have witnessed 76-79 % of voting, while three urban constituencies recorded between 58-62% of voting, which is the lowest.
Deputy commissioner and district election officer KV Rajendra had earlier informed that the voting percentage in about 1,200 polling stations in the district is low and district authorities would focus to improve the figures in the 2023 election.
