Cachar senior Cong leader resigns, cites personal reasons

Silchar: In a setback to Congress, veteran leader from Silchar Alok Kar resigned from the party on Wednesday.
A two-time ward commissioner of the Silchar Municipal Board, Kar submitted his resignation to Cachar district Congress committee president Abhijit Paul.
In the letter, he cited personal reasons behind his decision of quitting the party.
However, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sanjeev Roy said Kar’s resignation would create a void in the party, but that can definitely be filled up.
Kar’s resignation comes at a time when everything apparently “is not very well” within Congress. There have been several reports of infighting between different sections of district workers, especially after the recent appointment of Paul as the district Congress chief.
Congress has also been in a middle of a crisis in the Barak Valley and across the state with many of its members, including legislators, joining the ruling BJP in the last few years, and also for its dismal performances in electoral battles. Like in August, 2021, former Congress MP of Silchar and one of the most popular faces from the grand-old party Sushmita Dev had resigned from and joined Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Also, in the last assembly polls, the party managed to win just four out of the 15 seats in the Barak Valley.
