Four arrested for man’s murder at Nehru Maidan
Mangaluru: The Mangaluru South Police arrested four persons on the charges of murdering a 45-year-old man, whose body was found in Nehru Maidan on Tuesday. City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said that the arrested accused are Prashanth,40, from Thiruvananthapuram, GK Ravikumar alias Nandish alias Nandi,38, from Kushalnagar, Vijaya Cutinha,28, from Amblamogaru, Konaje, and Sharath V,36, from Kasaba in Bantwal.
According to police, the deceased Janardhan Poojary was sleeping in the public gallery in the football ground in Nehru Maidan.
The accused searched his pocket and tried to steal his mobile phone.
However, he immediately woke up, and the four accused demanded that he hand over his mobile phone to them.
When he refused to do so, they stamped him on his chest, and he fell from a height of about 6ft. The accused went to the spot where he fell down, and assaulted him. The four accused took away his mobile phone and fled from the spot, commissioner Jain said.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s brother, a case has been registered under various IPC sections.
The accused were arrested near Muthappa Gudi located near the Central Railway Station, and the stolen mobile phone was recovered.
The commissioner said that the arrested accused have a criminal background. Of the arrested, GK Ravikumar was involved in a murder case in Kushalnagar police station in 2009, and Sharath was involved in a house burglary case reported at Vittal police station in 2007. He was released on bail, in connection with a extortion case reported at Manipal police station in 2022. Meanwhile, Vijay has been booked in a Pocso case at the Konaje Police Station.
