In Mumbai, staffer steals Rs 6 lakh gold from store & flees

MUMBAI: The Malad police are looking for a jewellery store worker who is on the run with 123 gm of gold worth Rs 6.5 lakh which he allegedly stole from the shop.
The accused Sharif Malik had worked at the store briefly in 2022 before returning to his hometown in West Bengal. He returned to work at the store from mid-march 2023.
According to a complaint lodged by the store manager, he had entrusted Malik with 277 gm of gold for making earrings on April 14. Malik had started work.
On April 16, the manager had to leave for Zaveri Bazaar and left Malik alone at the store. Late that night, Malik called up the manager and said he was leaving to meet a friend and would get late. But Malik never returned and turned off his cellphone. Suspicious, the manager checked the lockeand found 123 gm of gold was missing.
