With temperatures set to soar and cross the 40 degrees Celsius mark again in Pune on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning on the possibility of heat strokes and asked people to avoid stepping out in the afternoon.
After a week of light rains and relatively low temperatures, Pune is now witnessing rising temperatures. Several parts of the city like Koregaon Park, Magarpatta etc have already reported temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
Though light to very light rain is forecast on Thursday evening, it is unlikely to provide much relief. The maximum temperature is likely to be 40 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will be 21 degrees Celsius, the IMD has said.
In view of the excessive temperature in the afternoon, citizens have been advised to avoid stepping out and to ensure that they are well-hydrated.
The Met department has also asked citizens to take adequate care during lightning and thunder by avoiding the use of mobile devices or other electronic equipment. Citizens have also been asked to take care during driving and to avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning and thunder.
