SHIVAMOGGA: BJP veteran
BS Yediyurappa rode his "lucky Amby" as he accompanied son BY Vijayendra, who arrived to file his nomination papers for Shikaripura seat in Shivamogga on Wednesday, with perhaps the hope that his heir's political journey is just as successful as his own, or even more.
The former Karnataka CM boarded the white Ambassador car at his farmhouse some 20 km away and arrived in the town in style. It was with this car, bearing the registration number CKR 45, that Yediyurappa began his political journey and the vehicle had been his constant companion as he crisscrossed the state, trying to build the party from scratch in the 80s and 90s.
Although Yediyurappa didn't know how to drive then, he bought the Amby from a businessman in Shivamogga in 1974. It was the registration number that attracted him. A firm believer in numerology, the Lingayat strongman considers '9' his lucky number as his birthday falls on February 27, with the two digits adding up to nine. All the vehicles that his family bought have the same number (4545). Vijayendra said the car was his father's favourite vehicle. "It is a lucky car for the family," he said.
