From lower tenancy, to meager amount of money spent on lodging, all signs highlight a major drop in spring break activity of tourism in Summit County in 2023 compared to 2022.

However, the experts of the industry said that they are not that worried, achieving a predictable reduction from the post-pandemic boom in tourism that the county experienced last year.

The executive director for Summit Alliance of Vacation Rental Managers, Julia Koster, said that she thinks this was in accordance with what they were hoping. Demand is declining all over the board.

Koster’s group represents over 4,500 properties related to vacation all over the county found that occupancy in March dropped about 29% compared to the same time 2022. The last month’s first and third weeks have fared the worst compared to the same time last year, Koster said.

On lodging, visitor spending was down as well by an average of 10% to 12%, as per Koster.

Koster also said that she did see people returning to Summit County in a major way last year, it absolutely felt very demanding. On the contrary, this year, she thinks they’re seeing some of that course correction.
Koster had seen that in actuality since the beginning of 2023, when the booking number for spring lagged behind years prior.
