Sambalpur violence: Internet suspension extended for 24 hours, VHP observes 14 districts shutdown

The bandh declared by VHP is a 12 hour dawn-to-dusk shut down, which started at 6:00 AM in the morning and will last till 6:00 PM in the evening.

The aftermath of recent violence during the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in Sambalpur, Odisha is being witnessed as amid normalcy and peace restoration, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday is observing a complete shutdown of 14 districts.

The internet suspension across the town has been extended by the administration for another 24 hours to bring back normalcy and peace in the situation.

The VHP today is observing a shutdown in 14 districts of the state condemning the violence claiming that their people were attacked by the Muslim community during a procession of Hanuman Jayanti in Sambalpur town.

The bandh declared by VHP is a 12 hour dawn-to-dusk shut down, which started at 6:00 AM in the morning and will last till 6:00 PM in the evening.

The districts whose daily normalcy has been affected due to the strike includes violence hit Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabrangpur and Rayagada districts.

The twelve hour shutdown has allowed emergency services which also includes allowing schools, collges to conduct their exam as per their schedule if any, along with medical services.

An activist of Bolangir district while speaking to a local media demanded action by the police and the government against the culprits who were involved in attacking the Hanuman Jayanti Rally in sambalpur.

The Bajrang Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party has backed VHP and has showed in their support for the state-wide shutdown.

Yesterday, A BJP delegation headed by Union Minister of state for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu along with BJP state unit president Manmohan Samal, including several BJP MPs and MLAs were detained by the police while they were entering into the Sambalpur town.

Last week, on Wednesday a communal clash broke out in Sambalpur which resulted to escalated tensions amid which the administration suspended the internet services for 48 hours across the town.

Again on Friday, while the observance of Hanuman Jayanti, late on evening another clash took place, when a youth was stabbed to death and several shops were set into fire.

India surpasses China, ranks most populous nation in the world with 142.86 population

As per the official data released by the UNFPA, nearly 25% of the population of India is under the age of 14, whereas between the age group of 15 to 64, it accounts to 68% of the total population and the remaining 7% consists of people above 65 age group.

India surpasses China, ranks most populous nation in the world

India, now ranks as the most populous country in the world surpassing China, as per the data released by United Nations (UN) on Wednesday.

According to the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) The State of World Population Report, India has now got the tag of highest population across the globe with 142.86 crore people against China’s 142.57 crore.

India which almost for a decade now, stood second in the list of highest populated nations in the world and China in the first, as per the data released today India has now topped the list officially.

This is the first time ever since 1950, when India in the list of UN’s most populous country has ranked first.

There is no official data available with the government of India regarding the total count of people who reside in the country as the last census was conducted 12 years back in 2011 and since then no census has been conducted.

As per the rule, the census data is released in every 10 years, which was due to be released in 2021 but it got delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic as census requires volunteers visiting each home across the nation taking details and accounts of each and every citizen and members in their family.

As per the official data released by the UNFPA, nearly 25% of the population of India is under the age of 14, whereas between the age group of 15 to 64, it accounts to 68% of the total population and the remaining 7% consists of people above 65 age group.

China for a longtime now is facing a decline in its demographic with its plunging birthrate and ageing workforce. In January this year, a report claimed that China’s birth rate recorded an all time low with 6.77 births in every 1000.

In fact, it was the first time ever in the past six decades that its yearly population in 2022 shrank than last year’s population that too over a million count.

In the meantime, some agencies across the world have reported and claimed that the population of India will be in a rising scale for nearly three decades now until it reaches the mark of 165 crore and then would see a declining phase.

The report of the United Nations also suggested that the estimated global population will hit around 8 billion by the mid of 2030.

Amid the ongoing Karnataka elections buzz, filled with campaigns and rallies of various political parties, star politician’s roadshows, there’s a candidate who has done something different than usual and is now gathering huge praise and support across the internet.

An independent youth candidate who wishes to fight the upcoming state assembly elections scheduled for 10th May, has deposited his candidature money of Rs 10,000 entirely in one rupee coins, the video of which is now getting viral on social media.

The candidate collected all this money from the people across the constituency reaching out door to door.

The name of the candidate is Yankappa who is going to fight the election from Yadgir constituency as an independent candidate.

The deposit fee that a candidate has to deposit for election is Rs 10,000 for this election. Yankappa filed his nomination on Tuesday in the local Tehsildar’s office and the officers took two hours to count the coins deposited by Yankappa.

While filing his nomination, Yankappa had a poster along with him with a thread tied around his neck and the poster had the images of ancient social reformers and poets from Karnataka, Swami Vivekananda, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and an image of the preamble of the Indian constitution.

There was some text also written in the poster in Kannada language.

Yakappa has done his graduation in arts from Gulbarga University in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka and according to the assets he declared while his nomination, his total net worth is Rs 60,000 and his father has around one acre land.

The Karnataka elections has got all the major political parties tied up into action along with their leaders taking up campaigns and addressing rallies starting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah to Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, H.D. Devegowda and a long long list that includes heavyweight leaders from the state and Delhi.

Jharkhand: Student union stage protest in Ranchi demanding 100% reservation for locals

On Wednesday morning, members of different student outfits took down to the streets of Jharkhand staging protests and enforce a shutdown in the entire state.

Since the start of this week, student organizations, student unions across Jharkhand are appearing on a large number on the streets of Jharkhand demanding a 100 percent reservation  for the locals in government jobs.

On this morning, the Jharkhand State Students Union (JSSU) staged a protest in the Moradabadi area of Ranchi where they set tires ablaze on the road, reaching out to the vendors in the nearby vegetable market to shut down their shops.

This incident took place in various parts and districts of the state but the normal life remained unaffected in the busy morning hours.

In Ranchi alone, security arrangement comprising of 2500 personnel have been made after the huge protest and call for shutdown.

The student unions are protesting against the new recruit policy of the Hemant Soren led state government. The protest got fuelled after the amendment by the state cabinet in the Jharkhand State Selection Commission (JSCC) exams scheduled for March 03.

Jharkhand state government carried out a survey that found that among 7.34 lakh job aspirants across the state to seek their support for the implementation of policy that existed prior to 2016 after which the protest erupted.

According to the new policy, the 60% of seats remains reserved for the state aspirants while the remaining 40% is open for all.

Under this policy, the government had reserved 100% of grade III and grade IV jobs for the local residents in 13 districts out of the 14 which fall under schedule V of the constitution which is meant to protect tribal rights.

The protestors also carried out a torchlight march  in Ranchi on Tuesday and on Monday, also attempted to protest outside Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence .

The students were detained while they tried to protest outside CM residence.

JSSU leader Devendra Mahto on this said that the government had previously promised for 100% reservation for the locals in the government jobs but now has opened doors for outsiders, which led them to declare this protest. Mahto also said the government instead of implementing the 1932  Khatiyan (land settlement) based recruitment policy, is now again re-implementing an old employment policy which allows 60% reservations for the state youth and the remaining would be open for all.
