CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu assembly on Wednesday passed a
resolution urging the Union government to amend the Constitution to provide reservation and other benefits -- enjoyed by the scheduled caste communities – to converted adi dravidar Christians.
All parties except the BJP voted for the resolution moved by chief minister M K Stalin.
The chief minister said religion was decided by the will of a person. But it was not so when it comes to caste. People from the adi dravidar community continued to face social problems and atrocities even after they changed their religion, he said.
In Tamil Nadu, these dalits enjoyed all benefits on a par with their Hindu counterparts except reservation. “It is important that the converted adi dravidar Christians also enjoy the benefits to ensure social justice,” he said.
