NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old boy has been apprehended by police for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old man, who the child said, was trying to sexually assault him.
Police said they got a call about a body lying on a footpath at the rear side of Red Fort on April 14.
They later found out that the boy had left his home in UP two years ago to go to Mumbai to work in the movies. He lived in Old Delhi for some time when the man, whom the police identified as Shambhu, befriended him.
The minor told the police that in the last two months the man was trying to force him to have "unnatural sex" with him. Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP North, said: "On April 14, Shambhu again tried to have unnatural sex with him and a quarrel started. During the fight, the boy picked up a stick and hit the man on the head, leading to his death. Since no family member of the boy is present, information of apprehension has been sent to his village in Uttar Pradesh."
Police said initially it was tough to identify the deceased. An eyewitness, identified as Shajid Khan, identified the body. Shajid is Shambhu's friend.
Based on Khan's statement, a case of murder has been registered.
Police have found a blood-stained stick and a cemented block tile with blood stains.
