In order to help alleviate dust and noise pollution, the government has installed continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations at four places in Goa, said Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral during the online inauguration programme of the said system at the Ravindra Bhavan at Curchorem on Wednesday.

Such stations will be installed all over the state in view of the future mining operations and will be a part of the mining mechanism, he added.

The system will also be installed in halls where private and public functions including weddings will be organised. After installation of these systems in the halls, the organisers will not have to visit the offices of deputy collector and excise department for obtaining permissions thereby simplifying the process for the public.

Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) chairman Mahesh Patil, member secretary Shamila Monteiro, Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council chairperson Jasmin Braganza, councillor Pradip Naik, JSW Foundation official Captain Anurag Bhauliwal were amongst those present on the occasion. Cabral further said along with the Curchorem Ravindra Bhavan premises, such stations have been installed at Dudhsagar, Colva and Baga. The stations manufactured by Bosch company have been donated by JSW Foundation under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.

Areas in 500-metre radius of the station will be monitored for dust and noise pollution. The stations will be operated and monitored by the Goa State Pollution Control Board, he said. Chairman Mahesh Patil also elaborated about the said system.
