Crime branch files FIR over inflammatory posts

The crime branch has registered a first information report in connection with inflammatory posts on social media, which   allegedly hurt religious sentiments.

The crime branch took cognisance of the posts, which have gone viral on social media.

The social media accounts are said to be of two schoolgirls from Goa.

The police are verifying the details.

The posts appeared soon after the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The police said the FIR has been registered under Section 153-A of  the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and Section 67 of IT Act (publishing of information which is obscene in electronic form).
