Gurgaon: Voltage fluctuations and inconsistent power supply may soon become history in Suncity as the builder along with the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) discom has started constructing a 33kV substation in the society.
Absence or delay in construction of 33 kV substation is the major cause of voltage fluctuation, continuous tripping and poor quality of power supply in city’s residential societies developed by private developers despite sufficient power at grid level.
Suncity was taken over by MCG in 2019 but the society’s electrical infrastructure was not taken over by DHBVN due to pending infrastructure deficiency at the time. Over the years, the electrical infrastructure deficiency was plugged and after completion of the substation, the society will come under the discom’s maintenance. Besides, people will not have to pay development charges for taking new electricity connections.
The residents claimed they have been taking rounds of various government offices for the last four years. “As Suncity is a private plotted colony, MCG in 2019 took over from the builder to maintain essential services. The discom delayed the takeover as there were deficiencies in the electrical infrastructure. DHBVN had asked the builder to upgrade the infrastructure or pay the equivalent amount to DHBVN following which they would take over the electrical maintenance. The developer has now upgraded the transformers and is constructing the substation in coordination with DHBVN,” said Kusum Sharma, chairperson of Suncity RWA.
RWA vice president Prashant Sharma said that the installation of the substation will provide the society with uninterrupted access to electricity for which they have been struggling for the last 20 years, when society came into existence.
“We faced many challenges during this journey, but our residents’ resilience, determination and spirit kept us going. It is that unwavering support and cooperation that has made this project a reality,” Kuldeep Rana, RWA president, said on Tuesday
General manager of Suncity projects Mathew said that the substation will handle higher voltage levels and help distribute electricity more efficiently, which can increase the power capacity of the area.
