Mangaluru: A joint meeting of the CPI and CPM Dakshina Kannada district committees, held here on Tuesday, resolved to hold a campaign for the defeat of the BJP in the assembly elections.
Leaders from the two Left political parties decided that the BJP should be defeated to bring communal harmony in Dakshina Kannada. CPM state secretariat member K Prakash said that the government, that insisted on ‘Na khaunga, na khane dunga,’ (we will not be corrupt, nor allow anyone else to be corrupt) has been eating everything. “Corruption has crossed its limits, that the government has become synonymous with 40% commission.
Meanwhile, the anti-constitutional stand of the BJP government have been pushing the nation’s democracy to danger. The statements of former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik regarding the Pulwama attack has exposed the BJP’s nationalism,” he said, adding that defeating the BJP will be the real nationalism.
Explaining the necessity of harmony in society, CPI state joint secretary B Amjad said that party workers should work tirelessly for the defeat of the BJP.
CPM state committee member Muneer Katipalla, reading out the joint resolution, explained why the Left parties have taken a stand not to contest the elections. “Left parties have decided not to be in the fray in Dakshina Kannada, and only to ensure the BJP’s defeat. We have decided to work for the victory of secular candidates,” he added.
CPM district secretary K Yadava Shetty, state committee member Vasantha Achari and veteran CPI leader V Kukkian were present.
