Thane: The Thane police have revoked the suspension of four cops, including a sub-inspector, who were among the ten suspended allegedly for trying to extort Rs 6 crore from a Mumbai-based toys seller in Mumbra last year.
The ten cops were accused of carrying out a raid on a toy seller on April 12, 2022 in Bombay Colony following a tip-off that Rs 30 crore cash has been stashed in toy boxes — Rs 1 crore in each of the 30 boxes. The toy dealer accused the cops of demanding Rs 6 crore to settle the issue. The incident caused embarrassment to the Thane city police then and these cops were suspended based on their, prima facie, involvement. An inquiry was ordered, which was initially carried out by DCP zone-1 and later handed over to DCP crime. Police said that the inquiry against the other six cops is pending and that they could face a disciplinary action. —Nishikant Karlikar
