Noida: In a second such incident in less than a week at a condominium in Greater Noida, a 10-year-old boy was trapped in a lift for 25 minutes at Shivalik Homes.
The child had boarded the lift from the ground floor that got stuck between the 7th and 8th floors but was eventually rescued. The family has registered a police complaint.
The child has been identified as Darsh Jaiswal who lives in the D tower of the society.
"The lift suddenly stopped midway. He tried pressing the emergency button several times but it was not heard by anyone. Residents who were passing by that lift area heard the child crying and immediately called the facility team", said Rajkumari Jaiswal, mother of the victim.
When people peeped into the lift, they saw that the child was covered in sweat. By opening a gap between the gates of the lift, people brought the child water and tried to console him.
"On Monday morning I also got stuck in this lift. There are two lifts. However, the other lift has not been working for the past month," added Jaiswal.
The victim's mother said that in these 30 minutes, her son's condition worsened. He started screaming and shouting for help. Somehow, the child was eventually rescued by the society members. After that, the maintenance department team reached the spot.
Jaiswal further alleged that people get stuck in one of the lifts every day.
Officers at the Surajpur police station said that the incident took place due to a fault in the lift which has been sorted out.
Even after multiple calls the maintenance department did not respond to us for a quote on the matter.
Last week, a family of eight, including three minors and two senior citizens, was trapped for nearly two hours in an overloaded lift, which sank to the basement from the ground floor at Golf Gardenia in Greater Noida’s Sector Alpha II.
