NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old boy was injured after he was allegedly attacked by dogs when he went out of his shanty to relieve himself in southwest Delhi’s Rangpuri on Monday, police said.
DCP (southwest) Manoj C said the boy went out around 7.30am on Monday to relieve himself near his house when eight to 10 dogs attacked him. “The boy has got injuries on the whole body. He was initially treated by a local doctor and later admitted to Safdarjung Hospital,” the DCP said. No PCR call was made about the incident and police haven’t yet received the medical report, he added.
The victim’s father is a ragpicker while his mother works as a maid in nearby houses. While police claimed that he went out to relieve himself, the father said the boy went to a nearby shop. He told TOI that his son, a Class VIII student, had gone out to buy milk for his younger brother when he was attacked. “We were not present in the house at the time of the incident. After hearing his scream, a woman and an old man came to the rescue of my son. They used a stick and stones to chase the dogs away,” he said.
He added that his son had several bite marks on the body. “We have been living here for the past one and a half years, and this is the first time that such an incident has happened in my family,” he said. The boy has three siblings.
This is the second suspected dog attack case in the area within a month. In March, two minor brothers, aged 7and 5 years, were killed on two different days allegedly by stray dogs in Sindhi Basti. As the provisional cause of death, a team of doctors performing autopsy said the deaths were due to “shock and haemorrhage as a result of multiple injuries to the head, neck, vessels, cervical spine and body caused by multiple canine bite injuries”. The cops are waiting for the final report in the case.
Sindhi Basti is close to Rangpuri, where the latest incident has happened. “We knew about the Sindhi Basti case, it was horrifying,” his father said.
