KOLKATA: The health department is going to start Kala azar elimination programme across the state. The Swasthya Bhavan will hold a training programme for the doctors and health workers for the 139 Kala azar endemic blocks in the state from the end of April.
There are 23 Kala azar endemic blocks in Murshidabad, 16 in East Burdwan, 15 in Malda, 11 in Darjeeling, 10 in Hooghly, nine each in north and south Dinajpur. Around 500 doctors and nurses are likely to participate in the programme.
