After taking a huge leap in its global ranking in median mobile internet download speeds late last year, India has been upping its rank in the list on a monthly basis. India went up two ranks in the global ranking in February and as per a new report, there has been a further increase of two spots in March. India also saw a decrease in the ranking in overall median fixed broadband speeds.
India in 64th position: Ookla According to the Speedtest Global Index for the month of March 2023 released by Ookla, India increased two spots in rank globally for median mobile speeds, from 66th in February to 64th in March.
“Ookla also recorded 33.30 Mbps median mobile download speeds in March this year which is better than 31.04 Mbps in February 2023,” the company said.
Ookla said that it collected data for the Global Index from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by people who use Speedtest to test their Internet performance. Apart from ranking mobile download speeds, Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index also ranks fixed broadband speeds on a monthly basis.
Fixed broadband speeds According to the connectivity insights released by Ookla, India’s global rank decreased by three spots – from 81st in February to 84th in March – in the overall fixed broadband speeds.
The overall fixed median download speeds in India saw a slight decrease from 50.87Mbps in February to 50.71Mbps in March.
According to the March Speedtest Global Index, Côte d'Ivoire registered the highest increase in rank and gained 19 spots globally.
In December last year, India upped its rank by 26 spots in December as compared to its position in November, in the global ranking in median mobile internet download speeds. With this increase, the country took the 79th spot from 105th in November 2022.
