‘Trafficking bigger than drug trade’

‘Trafficking bigger than drug trade’
Nagpur: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said human trafficking is perilous than murder and it was a bigger organized crime than drug trade.
“A strong social movement backed by the judicial system is required to curb this crime beyond boundaries and this issue is on the priority list of the state government,” he said.
He was virtually addressing a panel discussion as the chief guest on the subject ‘Prevention of Commercial Sex Trafficking of Women’ organized by the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) in partnership with Alliance Against Centres for Trafficking (AACT).
The first of the six proposed symposiums across the state by MSCW concluded on Tuesday.
Hailing the event, Fadnavis expressed the need for collaboration of different government departments and NGOs. “A provision has been made in the budget recently for fifty ‘shakti sadans’ across the state ,” he added.
Rupali Chakankar, convener of the symposium and chairman of MSCW, said, “Sex trafficking is a severe problem worldwide.” tnn
