Chatra: As mercury soars around 300 patients with complaints of seasonal sickness are visiting the sadar hospital in the district daily, officials said on Tuesday. Records show in the last week, 2,385 people fell ill due to heat and visited the hospital for treatment. Temperature in the district hovers between 40°C and 41°C.
District epidemic control officer Ashutosh Kumar said, “People are falling ill due to the scorching heat. Most of the patients coming to the hospital are suffering from fever, cough, diarrhoea and sunburn. Those who are staying outside for long are falling ill more.”
Streets wear a deserted look till evening as shops remain closed in the afternoon.
The district health department has issued advisory asking people to avoid going out in sun as far as possible, drink more water, always carry drinking water while travelling, wearing light and loose fitting clothes, use of sunglasses and covering head. The advisory also suggests people to consume seasonal fruits like watermelon and cucumber.
