West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday slammed the BJP on its remark of Banerjee dialing Union Home Minister Amit Shah over Trinamool’s national party status.

On Tuesday, BJP leader and Opposition Leader in the West Bengal assembly Suvendhu Adhikari claimed that Banerjee had dialed Amit Shah to request him to restore the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) national status.

Chief Minister Banerjee while speaking to the reporters at a briefing in the state secretariat said that she was surprised and shocked to hear such statement and she challenged if any such things is proven that she had called Shah, she will resign.

Earlier this month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) granted AAP as a national party and de-notified Sharad Pawar’s NCP and TMC’s national party tag after reviewing the eligibility.

The TMC supremo said that Adhikari is lying and she also spoke about the strong efforts of the opposition parties to come together and stand united against the center ruling BJP government ahead the 2024 general elections.

She referred to her Bihar counter part and JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar’s  recent visit to Delhi where Kumar held meeting with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Banerjee taking a swipe at the BJP said, their (opposition) silence should not be considered that they are all alone and that whenever they will come, will come like a tornado.

When the West Bengal CM was asked her take on the legalizing of the same-sex marriage, she avoided answering it saying the matter is sub-judice and will only form an opinion once the court finalizes its order as it is  a sensitive issue and she has to take care of the emotions of the people.

Suvendu Adhikari was formerly a Mamata loyalist who before the 2021 state assembly polls defected the TMC to join the Bharatiya Jnaata Party.
