Ludhiana: Famous international actor
Lisa Ray was in town on Tuesday to attend a Ficci Flo event, ‘Ray of Light’.
Lisa, who is a
cancer survivor herself, launched a cancer-detection van at the event. The mobile van serves as a small diagnostic unit on wheels, with mammography, x-ray and radiography machines on board. The van would be run in the district in collaboration with Sohana Charitable Hospital, Sector 77, Mohali.
One such van already runs in Tricity. In Ludhiana, it would diagnose women aged above 40, with routine tests for cancer, Here, mammography would be done for Rs 2,500 per head, after diagnosing the first 50 women for free.
At the event, the Bollywood and Hollywood actor also shared her own journey of fighting the disease.
Talking about how living with cancer is like, Lisa said, “Cancer doesn’t just affect the patient, but the whole family.”
She advised picking up hobbies like travelling and reading to deal with it. She said: “Travelling is therapeutic, it makes you closer to who you are and you get out of routine. It brings stillness, quietness and getting out of the comfort zone.”
She had last visited the city in 2019.
