Man arrested for confining 16-year-old girl, raping her

Ludhiana: Sahnewal Police arrested a 52-year-old man, who claimed to be an advocate, for confining a 16-year-old girl and raping her. Police recovered the minor from his house and handed her over to her family. Police have to confirm if the accused is an advocate or was working as a help with an advocate.
The minor girl’s father said that he used to work in a factory and had met with an accident three years ago. He had approached the court to get an accident claim realised and met the accused, who claimed to be an advocate. As he was unable to go to court due to his medical condition, his 16-year-old daughter would visit the accused. A few months ago, the accused gave a job to his daughter at his office.
“In the first week of April, I fell severely sick and was admitted in PGIMER, Chandigarh for a few days. After that, the accused took me and my daughter to his house saying that he would take care of us. The accused used to live with his domestic help in the house. He started raping my daughter and threatened her that he would not help her get the insurance claim if she resisted. I came to know about it on April 10 when I woke up early and could not find my daughter around. Next morning, she told me that the accused had been raping her. We immediately left from there however did not find a police complaint out of fear” he added.
On Saturday, the girl had gone to court for some work but did not return home. Her father kept searching for her but to no avail. Then he lodged a police complaint alleging that the accused had confined his daughter to exploit her. Police said, “Immediately after receiving a complaint, police raided the house of the accused and recovered the girl, who was confined there. Police have arrested the accused. Initial probe suggests that he was working as an assistant with an advocate.”
An FIR has been registered under sections 376 (Rape), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act has been lodged.
