Devotees dress up as mythological characters for Yatra
Berhampur: As silk city celebrates the month-long Thakurani Yatra, several people, irrespective of age, can be seen roaming around in the streets dressed as different mythological characters.
The biannual festival, which started from April 4 and will be over on April 28, is celebrated to mark the visit of Goddess Budhi Thakurani to her father’s house at Desibehera Street.
Those dressing themselves as mythological characters do so as a part of their vow (manashika) before the goddess to overcome their difficulties.
Not only the mythological characters, several others also dressed up like folk characters.
Some of these characters included Pila-khai dahani (child hunting witch), Babaji (sadhu) and beggars.
