3 Delhi cops among 4 hurt in Deoghar mob attack; 1 held
Dumka: As many as four cops, including three personnel of the Delhi police, were beaten up and taken hostage by a mob of villagers and prevented the arrest of a cybercriminal in Thengadih village under the Pathrol police station of Deoghar district on Sunday evening. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The four policemen, Mohit Kumar (ASI), Ankit Kumar (head constable) and Deepak Kumar (constable) of Delhi police and Sikandar Yadav (head constable) of Pathrol police station, managed to escape from the mob with minor injuries and they were later taken to the Madhupur-based government subdivisional hospital by their colleagues for treatment.
Police said the personnel were attacked with canes and other lethal weapons. “The joint police team was also taken hostage by the villagers before freeing the accused who was handcuffed,” an officer said.
Deoghar SP Subhash Chandra Jat on Monday said the cops managed to escape with minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital.
He said, “An FIR in this regard has been lodged with the Pathrol police station against over a dozen named persons, including one Pramod Rawani, who was forcibly freed from police custody. Many unknown persons have also been booked.
Jat further said one person identified as Abhinandan Rawani has been arrested so far in connection with the clash. He added, “Attempts are on to nab the cybercriminal who escaped and those involved in attacking the police team.”
The joint team from Jyoti Nagar police station in Delhi and Pathrol police station of Deoghar were tracking cybercriminals Pramod Rawani and Karu Ravani of Thengadih village.
