RAJKOT: One more government employee was arrested by the special investigation team (SIT) probing the dummy candidates racket busted in Bhavnagar on Monday.
Police arrested Akshay Baraiya (25), a clerk working with the government engineering college in Bhavnagar. Baraiya had hired Sanjay Pandya (30), a trainee police sub-inspector at Karai academy as a dummy in the exam for clerk.
"During Pandya's interrogation, we came to know that he took the non-secretariat (Bin Sachivalay) exam in 2021 as a dummy candidate for Baraiya who is currently working as a clerk in the government engineering college of Bhavnagar for the last one month," deputy superintendent of police RR Singhal told reporters.
With the fresh arrests, the number of those nabbed in the racket has gone up to six including four masterminds.

P olice inspector S B Bharvad said, “We are also finding out the number of candidates for whom Pandya took the exams as a dummy.” With the fresh arrests, the number of those nabbed in the racket flourishing since 2012 has gone up to six which includes four masterminds. Meanwhile, the Bhavnagar district primary education officer (DPEO) revoked prime accused Prakash Dave alias PK’s deputation as block resource centre (BRC) of Talaja and handed him to the district education committee for further action after his arrest.
In a related development, Bipin Trivedi, who is believed to be a close aide of AAP member and student activist, Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, was also detained by the police on Monday. Though investigators confirmed his detention, they refused to divulge his role in the dummy candidate racket. Sources said, Trivedi was detained after an alleged video went viral in which he claims to be a mediator between some of the relatives of the accused and Jadeja to buy the latter’s silence. In a press conference in Gandhinagar a couple of days ago, Jadeja had alleged about the dummy candidate scam thriving in Bhavnagar.
