MANDYA: Dropping a big hint of foraying into state politics, Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh on Monday said she is ready to contest from Mandya in the assembly if BJP asks her. It will be the party’s decision and not mine, she stated.
Speaking to reporters at Maddur, she said that till now there is no discussion in this regard. Asked if she will take on former CM HD Kumaraswamy if he decides to contest from Mandya, she said she is ready. “My confidence is that in Mandya constituency we have an able candidate. We have confidence in our leaders and activists. We need to fight against family politics,” the Independent MP who has extended support to BJP said.
She stated that this year Mandya’s election results will be surprising. There will be new results as a BJP wave is rising, she said.
“We will highlight the misrule of JD(S) which had won all seven constituencies five years ago. It is the time to show how the JD(S) MLAs misused the people’s mandate,” she said.
Sumalatha stated that her son - actor Abhishek Ambareesh will join the campaign in the later part of the elections. The party will decide the campaign schedule for me and Abhishek, she said.
She accompanied BJP candidate Induvalu Sachchidananda when he filed the nomination papers to contest from Srirangapatna. Actor Darshan was also present.
