The India Meteorological Department has forecast exceptionally hot conditions in Pune on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature predicted to be 39 degrees Celsius. Thunder and lightning with gusty winds are also expected in the evening. The minimum temperature is likely to settle around 20 degrees Celsius, it said.
In two separate incidents on Monday, gusty winds led hoardings to crash down in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, leading to the death of at least five people in the latter case.
Avoid taking shelter under trees
The IMD has asked citizens to take adequate precautions on Tuesday owing to a cloud cover over the city which can lead to thunder, lightning as well as gusty winds. In an advisory, the weather office has advised citizens not to use mobile devices or other electronic equipment during such periods. Citizens have been asked to avoid taking shelter under trees and exercise caution while driving vehicles.
In view of the rise in temperature expected in the afternoon, citizens are advised to avoid going out during those hours. Some areas of Pune may receive light to very light rain, the IMD added. After last week’s rainfall and hailstorms, the current week is expected to be mostly dry.
