On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature also rose to 21.9 degrees Celsius- 0.9 notches above Sunday's 21 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will witness a two- to three-degree dip in temperature from Tuesday due to a western disturbance.
"Western disturbance is expected to bring scattered rainfall in Haryana from Tuesday. It is likely that the region will get gusty winds of around 40km/hour along with rain and thunderstorms as a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region," said an IMD official.
"We are expecting a temperature drop in city and its neighbouring areas because of this activity," he added.
The city's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 265 (poor) on Monday. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), "The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from Northwest directions in Delhi-NCR with wind speed 8-10 kmph on Tuesday and thus the air quality is likely to remain in poor to moderate category for the next three days."
Meanwhile, Delhi on Monday continued to see warm outdoor conditions and recorded isolated heat waves in a few areas.
At Safdarjung, the city's base station, the maximum temperature was recorded at 40.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, against 40.4 degree Celsius a day earlier, while the minimum temperature stood at 21.9 degrees Celsius, the season's normal, against 22 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
