Ludhiana: Work in the district courts remained affected on Monday as advocates observed “no work day” over registration of a case against an advocate. District Bar Association (DBA) members said that they held an emergent meeting of the Ludhiana DBA executive body, during which it was unanimously decided to observe “no work day” on Monday in response to the state-level call given by District Bar Association, Kapurthala.
The advocates are protesting against “wrongful arrest” of advocate Rajdeep Singh, in a case registered at Mehthiana police station of Hoshiarpur district on March 30. The advocates condemned such “illegal acts and high-handedness” of the police.
As per reports, a few days ago, Rajdeep Singh, a lawyer in Kapurthala, was arrested for his alleged links with pro-Khalistan activist Amritpal Singh. President, Ludhiana DBA Chetan Verma said that all DBA members participated in the strike call.
Meanwhile, with advocates on strike, litigants ran into delays. Gurmail Singh, a litigant from Tibba road said that he had come to district courts for some legal work but had to return home empty-handed as the advocates were on strike.
Meanwhile, the BJP legal cell said that it didn’t support the resolution of no work day. District president, BJP Legal Cell, Ludhiana, advocate K G Sharma said that they didn’t support the call in support of any person whose activities were “anti-national”.
