MACS in Kashi is G20’s 100th meet
Varanasi: As the the three-day G20 Meeting of Agriculture Chief Scientists (MACS) began here on Monday, it created a milestone for India, as it became host of the 100th meeting of the group, said Abhay Thakur, additional secretary (G20) ministry of external affairs. Highlighting the achievements of India’s G20 Presidency, he said 100 more meetings are likely to take place in coming months, adding that all members states and invited countries have shown interest in taking part in the meetings.
Thakur said G20 countries condemned terrorism in all its forms, including, in the form of xenophobia, racism and intolerance, or in the name of religion and recognised the commitment of all religions to peace.
Highlighting the outcomes of previous G20 meetings in India, Thakur said during the foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi in March, forming a holistic approach to counter terrorism was a big achievement.
During the meetings under India’s G20 Presidency, based on the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ - ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, he said, G20 foreign ministers deliberated on current global challenges and put the focus on strengthening multilateralism, food and energy security, ambitious climate and environmental action, deepening cooperation in sustainable development, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, global health, global talent pool, humanitarian assistance and disaster risk reduction, as well as gender equality and women’s empowerment, he added.
