When one imagines “celebrity Coachella style,” they may envision paparazzi photographs of yore showing the likes of Paris Hilton, Vanessa Hudgens, or any number of mid-aughts Victoria’s Secret Angels strolling the grassy festival grounds in their fringe boots and flower crowns. In 2023, however, you’re much more likely to see whatever celebrities wore to Coachella via their own Instagram accounts, or in commissioned editorial photos from brand-sponsored events. But nowadays the actual best celeb fashion at any music festival tends to hide in plain sight, and that’s because it’s being worn by the famous musicians performing onstage.
Since musical festivals have gotten back up and running since the pandemic, Coachella has become a capital-F Fashion Event, with more and more artists on the bill wearing custom looks designed by brands just for the event: Friday night headliner Bad Bunny wore a couple looks designed by SoCal cool whisperer Eli Russell Linnetz of ERL, and on Saturday, Blackpink hit the main stage in custom black and pink ensembles (of course!) from Dolce & Gabbana.
And while there are no official images from Sunday headliner Frank Ocean’s divisive set, the elusive musician wore a bright blue Mammut hooded puffer (he also has the same jacket in yellow) pulled up over a black durag, paired with loose gray trousers and what appeared to be a pair of classic white hotel slippers. It gets chilly in Indio at night, so hopefully Frank’s insulated layer kept him warm.
