Samsung has dominated the Android tablet segment for years, primarily due to the absence of tablets from other Android OEMs in global markets. However, the company has slowly started seeing some competition as Chinese brands are expanding the availability of their tablets in more countries. This year, the South Korean firm will face even more competition, and this time, it will be directly from its partner Google.
According to a report from 9To5Google, Google will launch its first-ever Pixel-branded tablet in June 2023. This is two months earlier than the expected launch time frame of the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup. While the Pixel Tablet will probably be cheaper than the Galaxy Tab S9, it will still offer some attractive features, including a high-end Tensor G2 processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB internal storage. Moreover, the Pixel Tablet will have an aluminum body with a nanoceramic finish that will make it feel like a porcelain surface.

Google has already revealed that its tablet will come with a speaker dock. Once the tablet is attached to the speaker dock, it will turn into a smart display, similar to the Google Nest Hub Max, complete with an optimized UI design to control smart home devices. This is something that the Galaxy Tab S9 isn’t expected to offer, and that’s understandable as Samsung isn’t in the smart display and smart speaker business anymore. While docked using rear-facing pogo pins, the Pixel Tablet will also get charged. The tablet has a separate USB Type-C port for charging when used away from the speaker dock.
The Pixel Tablet will run Android 13 out of the box. It will have a single rear-facing camera, a slim design, a front-facing camera, and four color options (in addition to Green and Pink). It will probably have a stereo speaker setup, while the Galaxy Tab S9 is expected to have a quad-speaker setup. While the Galaxy Tab S9 lacks the smart display feature and is costlier, it will more than make up for those disadvantages through its beautiful 120Hz OLED screen, faster performance, and more advanced features like Samsung DeX. Plus, it will be available in more countries.
