Ludhiana: After the skating rink in Sarabha Nagar developed cracks soon after being renovated at a cost of Rs 98 lakh, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) Ludhiana Rage initiated a probe. Municipal Corporation officials have also stopped payment to the construction company after cracks appeared on the track. The corporation had written to the construction company to get the track repaired.
The skating rink, built by the MC, is being used for practice for over two decades. For the past few years, skaters and their association had raised the issue of the broken rink with authorities. The MC had given contract of revamp of the rink to a company and work was to be done from December 3, 2021 to May 2, 2022. After the renovation, the rink was opened for players. However, merely two months after the renovation, the track developed cracks again, raised question marks on the material used by the construction company. Executive engineer, MC Zone D had issued letters to the construction company twice, first on August 25, 2022 and then on March 3, 2023.
Senior superintendent of police, VB, Ludhiana Range, Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu said, “The matter of the skating rink developing cracks soon after its revamp was recently highlighted in the news, following which the Vigilance Bureau started a probe into the matter. A technical team of the Bureau from Chandigarh may visit the track soon for its evaluation.”
