In Gautam Buddha Nagar, private schools refusing admissions under RTE, allege parents

NOIDA: Students are being denied admission to private primary schools under the RTE Act in several blocks across Gautam Buddha Nagar. As per officials, nearly 250 complaints have been submitted to the Basic Shiksha Adhikari office.
Officials say complaints have been made against nearly 10 CBSE and ICSE schools across Noida and Greater Noida.
“We have sent notices to these schools. If they still do not follow the order, we will set up a meeting with the principals,” Aishwariya Lakshmi, Basic Shiksha Adhikari told TOI.
“We have visited the school thrice after the list was out. However, the guard stopped us at thegate and did not let us in. The principal refused to have any conversation on this matter,” said Gopal, who wants to admit his kid in a CBSE school in Greater Noida.
Another parent said, “The school has kept us waiting saying that our documents are not enough even when we have submitted all the required documents. They are doing this to many students who want to take admission under RTE.”
According to the RTE Act, the documents required for admission include residential address proof, EWS certificate, Aadhaar card, income certificate, age proof, passport size photograph, contact details, ration card and caste certificate (if applicable).
The RTE Act mandates all private schools to reserve 25% of seats for students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category.
Meanwhile, the counting of the second round of RTE verification was held on Monday. Officials maintained that 3,660 applications were received in the second round, out of which nearly 2,600 forms have been selected. The rest were rejected due to invalid submission of documents. The result of the second round of the RTE lottery will be declared on April 19.
In the first round of the lottery, 5,761 forms were received out of which nearly 3,000 were selected. The admission data is currently being collected, said officials.
