Ludhiana: A city resident died of Covid while 24 tested positive for the disease on Monday, taking the number of active cases to 182. A day before, 43 persons tested positive. A health department official said that the deceased was a 60-year-old woman from Basti Jodhewal, who died at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. She added that the woman had diabetes for about 30 years and had renal problem as well.
Health officials said that the total number of deaths of the district has reached 3,022, of which 1,142 deaths were of people from other districts and state in Ludhiana. The 24 persons who tested positive included eight patients who had influenza like illness, four patients who got tested at hospital OPDs, contact of a patient, two healthcare workers and two Antenatal Care (ANC) workers. Seven patients are being traced.
Health officials said that so far, 1.14 lakh cases had been reported in the district. Health officials said that 519 samples were taken on Monday of which 375 were done through RTPCR technique and 144 were rapid antigen tests. Meanwhile, the capacity of the isolation ward in government hospitals is 390 whereas that of isolation wards in private hospitals is 2,066. Six beds in isolation wards of government hospitals and seven in private hospitals are occupied. There are 277 ventilators in Ludhiana hospitals, of which 256 are in private hospitals. Health officals said that as cases of viral flu were also being reported in the district, people should wear masks at least in crowded places to avoid getting infected.
