In another cyber crime fraud, a man from Punjab’s Amritsar lost Rs 5 lakh from his bank account early Tuesday morning. The online scammer duped the victim on the pretext of upgrading his credit card.
Karandeep Singh, the owner of a jewellery shop in the Sultanwind area, received a call from the fraudster who introduced herself as Radhika, an ICICI Bank professional. The victim didn’t realize it was a fraud call because he had visited the ICICI bank a few days ago and inquired about the latest versions of his credit cards.
Speaking to APN Live, the 29-year-old Karandeep Singh told that the fraudster asked him to upgrade his Emeralde credit card to a Sapphiro credit card to get premium benefits. He said she even told him that he will not have to pay a monthly credit card fee if he’ll upgrade to Sapphiro.
The fraudster then told the victim that a minimum of Rs 5 lakh must be there in his account to proceed further. Not surprisingly, the victim deposited Rs 5 lakh in his ICICI Bank account a day back. The accused then asked him to tell the OTP sent to his phone. Soon after Rs 5 lakh was deducted from his account leaving only Rs 4,000.

When Karandeep asked her about the deducted amount, the fraudster told him that it is the company’s policy to hold the amount for 24 hours and that after all the verification, the credit card will be issued to him.
Karandeep said he found something fishy and called ICICI Bank customer care to know about the status of the credit card and that’s when he got to know that he has become the victim of online fraud.
After learning about the fraud, he immediately blocked his credit card. Not only this, the fraudster even called him again and asked to unblock his credit card as it is hindering their credit card issuing process. Just when he confronted her, the fraudster disconnected the call and blocked his number.
Karandeep Singh immediately filed a complaint at a cyber cell who are currently investigating the matter.
