Girl student on way home after writing exam shot dead in Jalaun
Kanpur: A 21-year-old girl student of BA was shot dead in broad daylight in Kotra area of Ait town of Jalaun district by two motorcycle-borne miscreants on Monday.
One of the accused assailants has been arrested on the complaint of the victim’s family, while the police claimed that the girl and the assailant were having a love affair from which the girl had backed out.
After shooting the girl in the head at a point-blank range, the miscreants threw away the pistol on the spot and fled. Police have recovered the 315 bore pistol used in the crime and initiated investigations after sending the body for postmortem.
The police have identified the deceased as Roshni, daughter of Man Singh Ahirwar, a resident of Aindha village.
Police said the incident took place when the girl, a BA first-year student, was on way back home on foot after writing her exam at Ram Lakhan Patel Degree college in the area. She was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne men at Kotra crossing at 11.30 am.
Meanwhile, following a complaint, the police arrested a man for allegedly killing the college student.
Superintendent of police Jalaun Iraj Raja said Roshni had gone to the college for an exam. “The two miscreates, who had their face covered, accosted her, shot her in the head from point-blank range after an argument, and fled the scene.”
The girl’s parents lodged a complaint against one Raj Ahirwar, based on which police registered a case and arrested him. “Ahirwar is being interrogated and searches are underway to arrest his aide. It seems both were having an affair which had turned sour and the accused was upset over the development,” he added.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the two men had their faces covered when they approached the girl near the Kotra crossing. “One among them entered into an altercation with the victim and later shot her in her head. They threw away the pistol near the body and fled on the two-wheeler they were riding,” they added.
Meanwhile, a video footage of the incident, wherein the deceased could be seen lying in the middle of the road in a pool of blood while a firearm lying by her side, has gone viral on social media platforms.
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Twitter, “BJP government = crime”.
