Bhubaneswar: 3 law college students hurt in attack by ‘outsiders’
BHUBANESWAR: Three students of Maharishi College of Natural Law here were injured in an alleged attack by outsiders on Monday. Police sources said the injured were Plus II students
“A group of more than 10 youths reached the main gate and entered the campus with iron rods and sticks. They did not pay heed to the protest by security guards. They brought out three students from the campus and thrashed them in front of the college gate,” said a student.
An injured student said they had an altercation with one of the members of the group on Friday after he passed objectionable comments on a girl. “When we protested, he talked us down. We had a face-off with the youth. We had taken him to the office of the principal,” said the student. Students had asked the outsider youth not to enter the campus.
A teacher said police were informed about Friday’s incident. In the presence of police, the outsider had given a written undertaking that he will not enter the campus. The issue was resolved, the teacher claimed.
But the outsider with the help of a college student organised more than 10 youths from Jharpada and nearby places and attacked the college students, sources said. They targeted the students, who had protested the entry of an outsider on the campus, they said. Saheed Nagar police reached the college and started discussing the matter with college authorities. So far, no case has been registered in connection with the incident. “The college had requested help for campus security. There was an altercation over the entry of non-students on the campus on Friday. The attack was a fallout of the altercation,” said a senior police officer.
