UP man abducted in city found in Dholpur, 5 of sextortion racket held
Jaipur: A 52-year-old man abducted from Sindhi Camp police station area of the city two days ago was recovered in in Dholpur district and a sextortion racket was busted with the arrest of five men on Monday.
Police said the victim, Ranvir Singh, a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, was recovered from the ravines of Samrathpura in Dholpur district. The five accused were also arrested there. Singh was lured by a woman in the racket, and a ransom of Rs 15 lakh was demanded from him, said police.
“Ranvir Singh had received a phone call two months ago, in which a woman interacted with him. After a few more talks over the phone, the woman asked him to come to Jaipur and meet her. She invited the man to a hotel. After he reached there, a few men came and blamed him for raping the woman. They abducted him and took him to Karauli and later to Dholpur,” said SHO Jaimal Singh of Sindhi Camp police station.
The accused then called up the victim’s brother in Aligarh and first demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh to release him. They later agreed on Rs 15 lakh. “As the matter came to us, we took the help of technical surveillance and other inputs and found the victim’s location in the ravines of Samrathpura. We raided a place late on Sunday evening with the help of Dholpur police. We recovered the man and arrested five people involved in the abduction,” added Singh.
The arrested men were identified as Lav Kush Meena, Dev Kumar Meena, Bharat Meena, Vijendra Meena and Chaitanya. While the first four were arrested for kidnapping, Chaitanya, a priest at a temple in Dholpur, was arrested for harbouring the criminals. The woman involved is yet to be arrested, said a police officer.
