As part of a Major League Soccer initiative to help promote ending plastic waste, the jerseys FC Cincinnati wears in Saturday's match against Portland Timbers will feature some noticeable alterations.

MLS players will be sporting Adidas "One Planet" jerseys for the league's ninth round of 2023 matches, which coincides with Earth Day weekend, according to a news release. The purpose is to "underscore the league’s commitment to raise awareness about ocean plastic waste and eliminating CO2-emitting plastics production."

The jerseys are made entirely out of recycled Parley Ocean plastic, which is waste "intercepted from beaches and coastal communities and shorelines," per the news release. "The design inspiration nods to the fact that the jersey materials are sourced directly from plastics that were diverted from reaching our oceans by incorporating topographical maps from the ocean floor."

The "One Planet" jerseys are available for sale at the TQL Stadium team store at 1501 Central Pkwy. in the West End.
