Another TMC MLA, 3rd so far, held by CBI for Bengal jobs scam
KANDI: CBI on Monday arrested Trinamool MLA for Burwan Jiban Krishna Saha from Murshidabad in connection with its probe into the school recruitments scam, report Rohit Khanna & Sukumar Mahato. He is the third TMC legislator to be arrested in connection with the case, after Partha Chatterjee and Manik Bhattacharya.
The arrest came after 65 hours of questioning that began Friday included a combing operation at Saha's house. During the search, the agency used excavators to dredge through a pond to search for two cellphones that Saha had allegedly thrown in. The agency has found both phones, apart from some "incriminating" documents.
The special CBI court, Kolkata, has remanded Saha in CBI custody till April 21.
Investigators have charged Saha with trying to destroy evidence, alleging that he had thrown two cellphones into the pond adjoining his home during questioning. The two phones and five bags full of photocopies of admit cards of TET candidates from Murshidabad and Burdwan, among other districts, have been recovered, investigators claimed. The CBI has sent the two phones - one of them retrieved from the pond, and the other from the foot of a tree - for tests and data retrieval.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee issued a strong reaction. Calling Saha's arrest a part of a "BJP game plan" to reduce TMC's strength in the Bengal assembly, she said: "We have an overwhelming majority in the assembly. Even some BJP MLAs are in touch with us. The agencies are being guided by a dacoit who misused power and is now calling the shots in Bengal."
